For this task we were asked to create a piece of work which promotes our blog. This was to be presented to the class in an informal manner. We was told it must include our blog address and could consist of the colours which reflect our personality, maybe an image of ourselves, a typographic or textured background and the three words we used to express our personality.
I created two pieces of work which I believe promotes myself and my blog well. This first one I believe promotes not just my personality but my blog as well. I decided to use the typography I used for the word ‘organised’ in my ‘expressive type’ task and use this for the font of my blog address. This made all the letters the same height and width connoting the idea of good organisation skills. This is what I truly believe my blog is. It is well- structured and easy to navigate around, having the sub headings and drop down titles to make it easier to find what you want. Also my blog isn’t complicated so having my blog address placed at the bottom right shows simplicity and makes it clear and understandable. The colours reflect my personality in a sense of sophistication within the clothes I wear as I wear a lot of black but in a stylised manner. The white in the top left brightens up the background showing I am happy and do have a shine to me.
This was my second design which I based around the background I created to represent my personality. I decided to change the colours of the squares to a brighter pink so they linked better to the colours of the font I created which expressed my personality. I used the ‘fun’ type I designed to create my name and then in ‘Helvetica’ I typed the rest of my blog address. I think this all works really well as a design and it acts like a logo.
Comparing these two designs together I think they both reflect the two sides of my personality. One side of is sophisticated, organised and tidy with a shine, whereas the other side is fun, exciting and happy but still well organised due to the order of the squares.
Peer Feedback
I chose to present my second idea to the class with the bright pink and green squares. When I presented my self promotional piece of work I explained what I did and why I did it. I then received feedback from my peers. Someone mentioned trying the design on a darker coloured background other than white so I have decided to make the background black so the colours stand out more and electrify the design.
